Travel north of Charleston about an hour and you will arrive
at Pawleys Island, SC. Here, in the late 1800's, after much trial and error,
riverboat Captain Joshua John Ward created the original cotton
rope hammock woven without knots for perfect comfort and
coolness. Joshua loved the coolness and comfort of his rope
hammock and used it on his boat instead of a mattress. The
original design has proven so comfortable that it is still used
over a century later in the popular hammocks we offered below.
